COURSE OVERVIEW

Join artist Serena Rowe for a 5-day intensive oil painting course.

Working from a different still life set up each day, you will expand your painterly language and deepen your technical understanding of oil paint.

It is Serena’s hope that you will cease to merely describe things in paint but begin to express them.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Join artist Serena Rowe in this intensive and inspiring five day oil painting course.

Still Life painting is not a cold collection of inanimate objects, but if approached in the right way, can become a portal for the artist to express feelings, memory and hidden thoughts. But how to capture these things in paint?

Every day we will work from a new still life arrangement inspired by the idea of temporality, it could be a piece of writing or painting.

After a series of quick and exciting drawing exercises we will get painting!

Taking our time to mix colours so we are free to react quickly and instinctively to what is in front of us.

During the course, your observational drawing skills will improve and as a consequence you will feel more comfortable to take risks in your mark making.

You will have expanded your painterly language and have deepened your technical understanding of oil paint.

You will leave with an armful of expressive drawings and paintings and a head full of inspiration!

Serena Rowe has 30 years of experience painting with oils and is an encouraging, approachable and experienced tutor. She has had a wide range of education from atelier style training in Italy to a Postgraduate Masters in Drawing from the Royal Drawing School.
