Earlier this month, in a ceremony at Mansion House, two members of the Art School community received Master Certificates from the Livery Company Skills Council with the City & Guilds of London Institute.

The Master Craft certificate acknowledges expertise and a high level of craftsmanship in the recipient’s work, as well as a commitment to the continuation of the craft through the training or mentoring of less experienced craftspeople.

Our congratulations to Woodcarving Tutor Takako Jin, who was awarded her Master Carver Certificate from the Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers. Takako graduated from the Art School in 2013 with a Diploma in Ornamental Carving and Gilding. Since then, she has worked continuously as a woodcarver and gilder, undertaking commissions for notable institutions including Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Brighton Pavilion and Hampton Court Palace, in addition to her work as Woodcarving Tutor at the Art School on our BA (Hons) Carving: Woodcarving and Gilding and Graduate Diploma Programmes.

The Art School also congratulates Carving Alumna and Guest Tutor Charlotte Howarth on receiving her Master Certificate from the Worshipful Company of Masons. Charlotte graduated from the Art School in 2003 with a First Class Diploma in Lettering and is an award-winning sculptor, designer, stone carver and letterer. Alongside Nina Bilbey, Charlotte is the co-founder of the Abraxas Stone Carving Academy and Co-Host of the podcast ‘The Stone Carving and Lettering Takeaway’.

Congratulations Takako and Charlotte!
