Introductions to oil painting

Just before the festive break, our National Saturday Club 2D members took their first steps into the world of oil painting.

The session was guided by final year BA (Hons) Fine Art students, Liberty Sinclair and Georgia McKenzie. For many members, it was their first time using oil paints, and the results were fantastic.

The workshop kicked off with monochrome studies of a still life, with members creating expressive paintings in just 30 seconds to a minute. These quick bursts of activity allowed them to loosen up and embrace the fluidity of the medium.

Liberty and Georgia then demonstrated essential techniques in colour mixing, perspective and paint application, helping members gain confidence with each brushstroke. By the end of the session, members had an entire hour to focus on a single painting, applying everything they had learned into their pieces.

Each member’s work brimmed with creativity and individuality – well done on a brilliant session and thank you to Liberty and Georgia for an inspiring and joyful class.
