The Graduate Diploma (Grad Dip) Arts: Fine Art provides an opportunity for you to build on your existing skills and knowledge in a specialist area or to develop new skills closely related to your existing work. The programme can help you develop the specialised skill-set and knowledge-base required to undertake a Masters degree with us. It can also be viewed as a stand-alone course if you are seeking to refresh or expand your practice.
If you apply for our MA Fine Art course and we think you are not yet fully equipped to successfully undertake the course, we may suggest you obtain the Graduate Diploma first to ensure you have the skills, knowledge and confidence you will need for your postgraduate studies.
The Diploma is a Level 6 award, an equivalent level to the final year of a BA (Hons) Fine Art course and might share some learning activities with those students or with students at other levels. It is not an alternative to a full BA; most applicants for the Graduate Diploma will already have a first degree, equivalent training or existing experience in a closely related discipline.
On the course, your learning will be supported in a number of ways through lectures, group discussion, tutorials, seminars, field trips, workshops, demonstrations and group critiques as well as individual supervision of projects. You will be encouraged and supported to develop your research and practice skills and to develop communication skills to articulate your ideas, proposals and document your work through writing, verbal presentations, and visual recording.
The Graduate Diploma Arts is validated by Arts University Bournemouth and delivered full-time across one academic year. If you are not able to complete the course and need to leave after successfully completing the first unit, you may be awarded a Graduate Certificate.
