Completing first projects in clay

At the end of last term, our National Saturday Club Members from the ‘3D Heritage Craft’ Stream proudly unveiled their first project. Over four weeks, they have created wonderful clay masks under the guidance of third year BA (Hons) Fine Art student Emma Zeck, and BA (Hons) Carving: Woodcarving & Gilding alumna Jo Grogan.

The process began with our members reflecting on keywords that represented who they are, and using these words alongside artist references to design their masks. They then sculpted their masks with care, shaping the clay into their visions. Once dried, the designs were brought to life using techniques taught by Jo, including gilding, painting, and modeling.

The final results were outstanding – from messages about climate change, to theatrical designs, to devils and to animals, each piece told a unique story.

Well done to our 3D members for a fantastic start to the year!
