There are two levels of fees; Home and International.
Which fees you will be charged for is dependent on your residential history (where you have been living and with what status).
The BA Illustration course fees for 2025/26 are:
Home fee £9,535
International fee £19,250
Course fees can be covered by a range of different means depending on your personal circumstances. If you are a Home student you may want to consider applying for a Student Loan to cover part of your course fees.
Our full fees policy, including refunds and compensation, can be viewed here.
STUDENT LOANS
If you are a student from England or Northern Ireland and studying your first Honours degree with the Art School you may be eligible for support from the Student Loan Company. Information on how to apply for a student loan and all other aspects of student funding is available here and you can find detailed information about repaying your student loan here.
Please note: whilst for many of our courses you can obtain a student loan towards your tuition fees, the student loan for Undergraduate courses will not cover the full amount. If you require financial support to cover this difference please read the following section.
GRANTS AND FINANCIAL AWARDS
There are range of grants available to help fund your study. A list of sources of funding which the Art School has identified is available here, but you should also research other possibilities yourself, as grants are often applicable to specific or local circumstances.
The Art School also has a number of bursaries and grants available, to which applicants who have received an offer from us may be eligible to apply. And we are now able to offer a limited number of grants to support international students, including students from the EU, who would not otherwise have the means to study at the Art School. Applications for all grants and financial assistance are assessed on financial need and suitability. For queries relating to financial award applications, please contact: admin@cityandguildsartschool.ac.uk
Applications for grants or financial awards for 2025/26 open from 1 February 2025. To make an application please visit this page: Bursaries application form and guide
We are committed to widening participation in higher education and offering opportunities to study on our specialist courses. Alongside the Art School’s own grants, a number of organisations and individuals support our students through a range of grants and financial assistance. This is in recognition of our deserved reputation for excellence, our commitment to providing high levels of contact time with active professionals and our championing of specialist subjects.
The Art School’s bursary scheme aims to provide support to students in need of financial assistance and to cover the difference between the maximum student loan allowance towards tuition fees (from the SLC) and the course fees. For further information or to apply for Financial Assistance, please refer to the above section ‘Grants and Financial Awards’.
I am an EU/EEA/Swiss national. Will I pay international fees?
If you are an EU, other EEA and Swiss national and were granted settled or pre-settled status in the UK under the EU Settlement Scheme, you qualify for Home Tuition Fees on your course of study here.
If you are an EU, other EEA and Swiss national and were not granted settled or pre-settled status, you will need to apply for a Student visa to study in the UK and will qualify for international fees.
As well as your status under the EU Settlement Scheme, there are various other factors that may affect which type of fees you qualify for. For more details and how to apply for a Student visa, please see our information for international students.
ADDITIONAL COSTS
Successful Application Processing Fee and deposit
A non-refundable Successful Application Processing Fee (SAPF) of £250 (Home) /£350 (International) is charged on acceptance of a place.
For Home students a deposit of £500 is also charged on acceptance of a place but forms part-payment of your fees.
International students will be requested to pay the Annual Tuition Fee (see above) on acceptance in order to secure their place. If you would have difficulty in paying the Annual Tuition Fee in full on acceptance, please contact the Admissions Team to discuss making an alternative arrangement.
SAPFs and deposits are paid on acceptance of a place but should you change your mind before the course commences, deposits may be refundable. Application processing fees are non-refundable.
Material expenses
Whilst the Art School provides a number of basic materials for each student, there are additional costs you should consider. For example, the purchase of materials for specific modules and projects, as well as printing and photocopying costs. The amount you spend will depend on the plans you make for your projects. While it is not possible to give a precise amount, it is worth being aware that the cost of materials can be higher in the second and third years of undergraduate study. Some students secure external sponsorship for their final major projects and students are involved in fundraising for their degree show.
There is an on-site Art School shop selling art materials.
More information will provided at Open Days.
