Teresita is Senior Tutor in MA Fine Art. She studied Fine Art and Critical Theory at Goldsmiths College, and an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, where she was awarded the Painters Stainers prize for painting. In 1999 she won the Mark Rothko painting prize USA. She has exhibited in the UK and Europe and continues to exhibit nationally, her work can be found in public and private collections including Nomura Bank, BBC National Art collection, RCA and British Airways.
At the heart of her work is an exploration of haptic experience and its correspondence, or otherwise, with language. A significant aspect of her practice is concerned with maintaining the territory of the work as an approach, rather than an arrival, towards language whilst resisting an equivalent conclusion – representation, in the painting. She makes direct and physical contact with the surfaces she works with, developing processes and strategies for leaving and creating traces that result from her body in movement. Teresita lives and works in London.
