We are delighted to share that Mez Kerr Jones, staff member and former Artist Woodwork Fellow, has been awarded the prestigious title of Artist Laureate for Fluxus Art Projects and will participate in the Magnetic Programme Residency at Frac Bretagne in Rennes, set to take place in 2025.

This highly competitive award was presented to Mez by Madame Hélène Duchêne, the French Ambassador to the UK, during a ceremony at the French Embassy in London on October 11th.

Currently, Mez is working as a technician in the Wood Workshop and with the site team at City and Guilds of London Art School. During her presentation to the selection panel, she shared insights from her time as Artist Woodwork Fellow (2022-23) at the Art School, speaking about the new body of work she developed for her final exhibition at the MA Show 2023.

“I am honoured to receive this laureate prize and join a Celtic-Franco connection that transcends traditional borders. During the residency, my goal is to create a new and connected body of work, exploring the emotive and symbolic potential of materials in relation to the interregional politics and histories that have shaped Celtic nations. I hope to explore how the concept of ‘homeland’ intersects with ideas of belonging, cultural identity, and the sea as a connective rather than divisive force, especially within a context rich with Celtic lore and history.” – Mez
