Niki Mackay is a novelist and short story writer specialising in the darker areas of fiction. She has written many books within the crime genre including several psychological thrillers and a fictional depiction of an unsolved case from the 1960’s known as the Hammersmith Nude Murders. Her debut novel, I Witness was shortlisted for the Luke Bitmead bursary and was published by Orion in 2018. Her latest novel The Due Date, published by Headline, made it to 13 in the UK kindle charts, 65 in the USA and was number one in three categories.

Her most recent book is a speculative thriller with horror undertones. She has contributed several short stories to various anthologies including ‘Coming Home’ in ‘Afraid of the Lights’ – a lockdown project which raised money for The Samaritans. She has taught Creative Writing for City Lit, Curtis Brown Creative, Faber Academy and City Academy. She has also mentored new writers.

Niki is a graduate of the BRIT school, has a BA (Hons) in English Literature and Drama, full NCTJ (National Council for Training Journalists) accreditation and an MA in Journalism for which she was awarded a full scholarship by the Journalism Diversity fund. She has written for radio, local newspapers and several parenting websites but her preference is for making things up.
